KUALA LUMPUR: The FBM KLCI closed sharply higher for the third consecutive session on Friday on the back of buying interest in the index-linked stocks.
At 5pm, the 30-stock index closed up 15.48 points, or 1.07% to 1,465.80, its highest in over a month. The index moved between 1,468.48 and 1,450.73 throughout the day.
On a Friday-to-Friday basis, the FBM KLCI added 47.36 points.
Market breadth was positive as gainers overpowered the decliners on a ratio of 580-to-278 stocks. Traded volumes stood at 2.05 billion valued at RM1.54bil.

Among the 30 FBM KLCI constituents, 23 stocks were higher; six were lower while one traded flat.
Among the gainers on Bursa Malaysia, Batu Kawan added 40 sen to RM23, Malaysian Pacific Industries gained 36 sen to RM30.80, Nestle rose 20 sen to RM134.60 and Chin Hin Group climbed 20 sen to RM4.10,
Carlsberg was the top loser on Bursa Malaysia falling 24 sen to RM22.44. Hap Seng shed 21 sen to RM7.29, PETRONAS Gas eased 18 sen to RM16.80 and Imaspro declined 16 sen to RM4.02.
Elsewhere in the region, Japan’s Nikkei 225 closed up 0.4%, South Korea’s Kospi lost 0.66%, China’s Shanghai Composite index was down 0.62% and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index closed down 0.17%.
